Day Fourteen of Super Summer 2011

Adam chillin after Papa woke him up
Adam ready to go once her heard he was going to dad's again

Day Fourteen of Super Summer 2011

Adam and Papa have been managing pretty good while I am in the hospital. They have figured out how to switch the TV to dvd mode and Wii mode. They come and visit me in the hospital around dinner time and they eat the food I didn't or couldn't eat.

They both took a walk with me down the hospital corridor. They said I was walking pretty good. Looks like I will be out of here tomorrow, I am progressing pretty fast. It will be nice to get back home where all the Adam hugs are.

Goodness I am tired tonight. I just fell asleep typing up my thoughts. Drat, it's a good thing I didn't start typing the crazy dreams I just had, WOW.

Tomorrow is the big day, I get to come home.

Good night

Day Thirteen of Super Summer 2011

Day Thirteen of Super Summer 2011

Adam spent the day with his dad today. He got up with Papa in the morning and got himself dressed and brushed his teeth without even being asked. He says he had fun at dads, they played on the playstation and watched some movies on Netflix.

Papa picked Adam up and they came to the hospital to see me. I was dinnertime. I still am having trouble eating so Papa ate the chicken Cesar salad and the mandarin oranges, Adam ate a bowl of cheerios with a banana cut up in it and angel food cake with whipped cream on top. Delicious.

Adam built a complete Lego Star wars kit, and a big one at that, all by himself last night. He is so smart and super talented.

My friend Janet stopped by the hospital while Adam and Papa were here. Janet is going to take Adam to the pottery barn next week, he is excited about what he will paint.

Well I am doing well, I have waked 4 times today and did some physical therapy too. Hopefully all will go well and I can go home on Friday. They are coming in to hook me up to a machine that moves my legs, it's big and bulky so won't be typing much.

See everyone tomorrow.

Day Twelve of Summer Summer 2011

Day Twelve of Super Summer 2011

Well double knee replacement surgery is done. It wasn't too bad. I am glad. I had a spinal and a block to reduce the pain.

Adam spent the day with great-grandma and said he had fun. She took him to the dollar store and he got 2 toys. Adam loves the dollar store.

Papa picked him up and to the hospital they cam to see me. Adam of course checked everything out, including the bandages. Then he turned on the TV and found a Start Wars movie and didn't want to leave. But poor Papa had to go, he was exhausted. We were at the hospital by 5:45am so we were up by 4:30am.

Tomorrow Adam should be spending the day with his dad hopefully practicing riding his bike.

Well I am a little tired so I am gonna end the post here and go to sleep. See you tomorrow

Day Eleven of Super Summer 2011

Adam and Julia watching out the window together
Day Eleven of Super Summer 2011

The Monday before Nana's surgery... we had lots of errands to run. We went to the bank, the post office, delivered Avon, stopped for ice cream, bought some movies and ended up at Dayna and Hannah's for an afternoon in the pool and playing on the trampoline.

Then we went BOXING and of course because he was such a good boy today a happy meal for dinner.

Looks like my surgery is going to be EARLY in the morning I have to be at the hospital by 6am. So not to have to wake up Adam so early in the morning to bring him somewhere we decided to let him have a sleep over with his great-grandma.

We found out today that Adam is going to be a goat in the HIZ KIDZ program in July. He is excited, he said he has never been on a play before.

Well I best get to bed, I have to be up in um 4 hours to get showered before we leave for hospital. I'll be back when I have two new knees :-)

Day Ten of Super Summer 2011

Day Ten of Super Summer 2011

Now that's one COOL kid. We were at the mall today to catch the 3D movie of Cars 2.

Can someone tell me if ALL six year olds have a bottomless pit for a stomach? This kid is ALWAYS hungry. He eats all day and night long. LOL. I can't believe he isn't twice his size already. At least I got him to eat some vegetables tonight, Asparagus too. He also loves Watermelon, last week he ate an entire watermelon all by himself. I have another to cut up tomorrow for the days I am in the hospital.

After the movie we stopped at Toys R Us again, I had a $25 gift card for him and he SCORED 3 boxes of new Lego kits. They were buy one get one at 50% off. Of course when we got home he managed to trick me into building them ALL. I wanted to save them for after I get home from the hospital so we wold have things to do while I recovered, oh well. Maybe I'll teach him how to play GIN. :-)

As usual we ended the night watching WIPEOUT from the DVR. I have been recording them since last summer, he LOVES this show. In case you have never seen this crazy show it's on Tuesday nights, check it out, it really is funny, especially when watching with a six year old.

Tomorrows activity will depend on the weather. You'll have to come back tomorrow to see what fun we have.

This Nana is out for the night, I'm tired.

Day Nine of Super Summer 2011

Day Nine of Super Summer 2011

Wow what a day we had today.

Started off going Boxing. We met some old friends there and the kids played while the adults boxed. After we went to Friendly's for lunch and ice cream. The four hours we were together went by super fast. Sort of like the summer has been flying by.

We got home and Adam and I built one of the bigger Lego's Star Wars kits, it had a skeleton man, and some kind of abominable snowman thing, and of course a Luke Skywalker.

Jimmy called and invited us all out to dinner at a Japanese Steak House, you know the kind where they cook your food right in front of you. They shoot pieces of raw zucchini at your face and you try to catch it in your mouth. And they kept making the grill flame up in front of us. Adam was a little nervous about the flames. He thought it was dangerous and not safe. But he liked it just the same.

Next stop was Adam going to Dad's to play for a couple hours.

Then home, more food, a shower and then bed time.

Tomorrow we have another fun filled day planned. Stay tuned for more...

Oh and here is a photo of all of us at boxing :-)

Day Eight of Super Summer 2011

Adam with Papa and Hannah Rose
Day 8 of Super Summer 2011

Today was the welcome back to NY party for Adam. We had quite a turn out. There were 18 kids there between 1 and 16, and 17 adults.

We had an abundance of food... Everything was homemade... lasagna, white bean and chicken chili, nachos, egg rolls, Mexican chef salad, hot dogs in BBQ sauce, a sub platter, chicken nuggets, and a zillion snacks and desserts too. Papa and Adam will have plenty to eat while I am in the hospital next week.

For entertainment I stopped at the dollar store and bought  package of 30 balloons. Just plain old blow up and toe balloons but those kids played with them for 2 hours, laughing and running around. They were loud but having a blast. Little by little the balloons started popping, and the adults were quite happy, LOL.

Adam was so excited even after everyone left, but he was wiped out and didn't even know it, fell asleep on the couch pretty quickly.

I can't believe 8 days have passed already, this summer is going by so fast. Yikes...

Day Seven of Super Summer 2011

Day 7 of Super Summer 2011

Adam and I hung around the house again most of the day today. I was still working on my paper and power point presentation for my summer class. It's done, just having my sister, the teacher, check it over in case I need to make any last minute changes before I submit it tomorrow.

Adam is so good while I work, he plays with his toys and watches his favorite shows on TV and Netflix, and of course plays Super Mario and Batman Lego games on the Wii. As you can see by today's photo he lives and breathes Mario these days :-)

The Bubba of mine sure know how to make Nana a softy. Somehow he managed to get me to cave and let him open two more Star War Lego kits. There are only two left and they are BIG sets. He is itching to get these opened too. I told them they must wait until I get out of surgery and back home next week and we can build them together.

So what does the smarty pants do? He calls Papa into his room and shows the boxes to him and asks if they can build them together when I am in the hospital. Papa says YES. That little bugger went behind my back. Then a few minutes later he comes to the living room and says to Papa, "When Nana goes to the dentist to have her knees fixed it's gonna be just you and me right?" Papa says yes and Adam gives him a huge hug. Now mind you Adam has been glued to my side for a week, but all of a sudden Papa is all that. Traitor. LOL

Adam came with me to Starbucks for the "meeting before the meeting" tonight. He had a SWEET TEA, he is such a Southern Boy now LOL. At the support group meeting he was so good, no one really even knew he was there, he sat and watched the movie "Igor" and played with his Star Wars Lego men.

When we got home we watched WIPEPUT the summer preview show. he loves this show. If you love to hear a child laugh let them watch this crazy show.

Tomorrow is a big day for us, so we hopefully will get some good sleep tonight.

Day Six of Super Summer 2011

Day 6 of our summer together and we were grounded to the apartment. Yep I have a paper to write for my summer class and it has to be done by Friday. It was raining today anyway so it was a good day to hang around in our jammies and chill.

Adam opened a couple presents that have been waiting here for him since Christmas. Some Lego's kits and a zhu zhu pet and a new Batman Lego game for the Wii. He played with them all, and watched the movie Milo and Otis too.

We did venture out in the rain to get gas in the car. We had to race to beat Papa to the pump and then back into the apartment. We won of course. :-)

Of course we watched for the geese as we ran to the car, they were hiding in the rain but we did catch a glimpse of one of them as we drove out of the parking lot. I am not sure if he likes the geese or just wants to make sure we steer clear of them.

My knees were really hurting today and my bubba was so good to me, he kept giving me hugs when I felt like crying. He's gonna take good care of me after my surgery on Tuesday. I am such a blessed Nana. :-)

Day Five of Super Summer 2011

Tuesday... So the little man is sleeping like a log, is he wearing Nana out or am I wearing him out? I can honestly say by 10pm I am ready to be in dreamland.

Today was another day of doctor appointments. Today was pre-admission testing at the hospital. After we stopped to the barber for the 2011 version of the super summer haircut :-)
This picture is a far cry from the barber visit we had just 2 years ago. He was literally screaming the entire time back then. If you look in the slide show photos I have of Adam at the bottom of my blog I am sure at least one is of him being tortured at the barber shop, lol.

Because we were out all day we stopped at Old MacDonalds for chicken nuggets for lunch and a new pokeyman toy. He scored and they gave him two :-)

We did get to spend about 2-3 hours in the pool today. Nana always seemed to be the zombie monster, Adam's version of marco polo :-) It was nice to cool off.

In between we also took Hannah to the dentist to have a couple teeth pulled, and for being a GOOD boy through it all he got to get one toy from the dollar store. He chose a package of 4 parachute men. I saw the tangle in my mind instantly. I was right. But Nana figured out how to untangle the four men and their parachutes. See sometimes being a knitter and knowing how to be patient in untangling yarn can come in handy.

A little snuggling on the couch watching Nick Jr and then it's bedtime for these two tired adventurers. Tomorrow is another day

Day Four of Super Summer 2011

Day 4- Adam meets the resident Waterside Way Geese.

These geese think they own the parking lot of our apartment complex. They try to keep us from getting into our cars and hiss at you if you proceed. They seemed to take a liking to Adam though, can you blame them? Adam on the other hand wasn't sure what to make of the hissing sound they made as we got close.

Adam got to follow Nana around today as I had to go to two pre-op doctor appointments. I am sure not very exciting for a 6 year old. At one Dr they had a small model of the bones in your spine and Adam was checking that out. A few minutes later he was reaching behind his back and said "Nana... I think I can feel these bones in my back" Then he walked over to the model again and said "I am pretty sure it's these three bones I am feeling".  I love the wonderment of little kids.

Adam also visited my college campus today. I had some school assignments to print out and he of course was with me. He is so well behaved.

Then we stopped at the old house, we needed to get something out of the garage, it was heavy but Adam and I managed to get it out all by ourselves. I rewarded him with an hour swim in Dayna's pool with Hannah.

One more DR visit, this time the cardiologist. He waited patiently while playing angry birds. He does love that game.

Walmart was our next stop. We needed groceries. He watched Megamind movie while sitting in the cart. But he still managed to pick out some "special" foods he loved.

All in all it was a busy day and HOT but we still had fun.

Day Three of Super Summer 2011

Sunday- Day 3- Fathers Day
We had a nice day today... started out with time at church. They were so happy to see Adam, it was like a swarm of HUGS lavished upon him. He is so loveable and everyone misses him as much as I do. Adam was a good boy in church, only one did he give out a SHOUT of YEAH he was playing a game and won a board and he shouted that right as Tom preached something about the JOY of the LORD, it was perfect timing.

After church we dropped Adam off to his Dad's for the afternoon. They ate Old MacDonlads for lunch and played video games. Adam loves playing with Jims dog Simon. Joe and Adam had pizza for dinner and we picked him up about 6:30.

Back to our apartment Adam decided to play with his toys and that's where he found the BIG FINGER, he came running out to the living room shouting I AM NUMBER ONE. How can you NOT love this boy?

Lightning McQueen was on TV last night so we watched that before bed. Adam had some chocolate-strawberry-vanilla ice cream for a treat. I can remember when he would only touch vanilla and nothing else. He is getting so grown up.

This summer is flying by.

Day Two of Super Summer 2011

Today we went to the movies and saw "Mr Popper's Penguins". Silly movie for sure... if you ask me all penguins look the same yet they could tell the difference between all 6 of them... Captain, Stinky, Lovey, Bitey, Nosey and Nimrod.  I think those were the names, I should have asked Adam before I put him to bed.

Adam went to see his dad's apartment this morning while I went Boxing. I only have a few days left before my surgery so I NEED to get there as often as I can. I will be in withdrawal for the 6 weeks it will take me to recover :-(

We made a couple stops after the movie, including Toy's R Us where of course Adam somehow talked me into buying him a new toy.

Adam called and talked to his mom and brother and all the family in SC tonight. He is so NOT a phone talker, but he did good tonight, he talked to everyone for a few minutes each.

Tomorrow is another day, so I best get some sleep if I want to keep up.

Day One of Super Summer 2011

Well really he is NOT sideways but my computer keeps flipping the morning photo of Adam, what's up with that?

We woke up late this morning, needed the sleep for sure. Had a chocolate mini donut that Papa left for Adam and a cup of milk for breakfast.

Adam watched Wipeout and WALL-E while I took my second Unit test for my summer college class.

Of course we MUST play with LEGO's while watching TV, hence the wonderful picture.

We had a swim in Dayna's pool with Hannah.

Then Joe, Jim and Becca joined me, Papa and Adam at our house to have PIZZA for dinner and play some games on the Wii. OMG what fun, they were playing Wipe Out on the Wii and Jim was not doing well, and Adam just crossed those big ball obstacles like it was something he did every day, once he even jumped across them with his character facing backwards. I laughed so hard I almost wet my pants.

OK OK I am old, it happens, I'll admit it lol

Day one went by fast, I sure hope the other 54 days don't go by this fast.

Let The Summer Begin 2011

Thursday June 16, 2011

Adam and I prepared for our flight from South Carolina to New York. Isn't he so grown up already? I love the pilot hat. Yes Nana is a softie and actually bought it from a stand in the airport.

We flew from SC to Baltimore and then Baltimore to Albany. It was a long travel ride though as the planes were delayed due to stormy weather. We finally got home at about 1am.

Adam said he NEEDED a cold ice cream treat. We tried to drive through Old Mac Donalds for a kiddie cone but they said no ice cream at 1am. :-( He is so grown up though not even a whine came out of him, instead he came to our new apartment and had a vanilla pudding cup and got ready for bed.

It's going to be the best summer ever.

ADAM IS IN NEW YORK AGAIN!!!!!
