August 31, Last day of August contest

Wow what nice comments yesterday. I have to admit, I am a little sorry to see the month end as well and am eager to start another one. I like being able to blog everyday... Does anyone know if there is a limit to how much these blogs can hold? Yikes that would be a bummer. I made a web page through Tripod for Adam and after so many photos it started cutting me off. So far I haven't seen any sign of that here.

Adam is sitting on my arms and boy is it hard to type, LOL

As for the winner... Adam goes home tomorrow and then I can gather all the entries together and draw the winner.

Perhaps for the last day I will make another RIDDLE... were those screams of JOY I heard? LOL

It comes in all sizes and colors too
Something you can use for things you do
Sometimes it's hard to find the end
With this a lot of time I might spend
The answer to the riddle is in this post
A brand name that I seem to use the most

Post your answer to this riddle in the comment section today for the final entry in the August contest. Remember you don't have to be correct you just have to try.

Send your friends over too if you haven't already, I am 309 page views away from my goal of 2000 this month, we can do it. LOL

Now I am definitely going to do something again, and I won't wait long... maybe starting tomorrow I will try the week long hint a day scavenger hunt until I get myself set up for a new contest. Not sure...

Now as for the prize... any thoughts there? I want to make it worth your while you know, LOL

My friend Inge from Germany is coming by today. It's been a couple years since I saw her last. She will be disappointed to see that I have not lost the weight yet. Other then that part, I am excited to see her.

I have toms of laundry to do, Adam was sick last night all over my bed, of course. Too much milk on a hot night. Sometimes I wonder where my brain is.

Oh by the way my niece and my sister and mom made it to Indiana OK, and she is all checked into her dorm. It looks for the moment she doesn't have a roommate and she is thrilled. She's never shared a room with anyone. I think the dorm roommate is really part of the college experience. My mom and sister drive home Sunday.

My son Jim, the one in college in Chicago, called last night he has found a job and an apartment it looks like. It should all be confirmed within the next day or so. Things are looking up.

Ok I am babbling (can you tell Adam got down finally?)

This has been my pleasure and keep coming back because I will start something new as soon as I can. Oh and come back to see who the winner was so I can get the mailing address info.

Day 30, August is almost over

Good Morning my friends

Well I can't believe there is only today and tomorrow left for August. This was surely one way to pass a long hot summer month by quickly and also a good way to get me used to blogging on a more regular basis.

Yesterday my mom hired a 16 year old girl to come and help me get some things cleaned in the house since I have been so sick. She was here for about 4 hours and my bathroom looks fabulous. I don't think I want any men in this house taking a shower now that the tub is so clean, LOL

I think she is coming back today and we are going to tackle the kitchen.

Adam is still here so I can't type a lot this morning, he already spied that I was online and wants to come up on the desk and play his games. But he loves it, and I love him so it's all good with me.

My cartoon caption for yesterday might have been:

Ida, in her knitting zone, never even noticed the change in the yarn as she worked up her favorite sock pattern, and Fifi was baffeled at how cold it was getting suddenly.

Todays contest assignment...

IF I WERE TO DO ANOTHER CONTEST IN THE FUTURE DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS OR THEMES, IDEAS ETC. ON WHAT I SHOULD DO? IE: A WEEKLY CONTEST, A SCAVENGER HUNT, QUESTIONS, RIDDLES ETC? I'D LOVE TO HEAR YOUR IDEAS.

ENTER YOUR THOUGHTS IN THE COMMENT SECTION AND GET ANOTHER ENTRY INTO THE AUGUST CONTEST.

Well I guess that's about it for me right now.

Oh don't forget to take the poll it's only open for the week.

See everyone tomorrow

The 29th day, So glad you're still here

Sorry about the late start this morning. Adam went to bed at almost midnight, and I was up for another hour after that, so we slept in until 8:30 this morning.

I guess I need to work on my riddles huh? I'm sorry if I made them too hard, I thought it would be too easy...lol it made perfect sense in my mind. I thought the "off the cuff" clue would have told you the answer before you even read the riddle. Oh well, maybe by the next time I decide to do this agian I can be a little better at it.

My niece Autumn left early this morning for college, she is going to Indiana Wesleyan. She is smart and beautiful and wants to go into some type of ministry. I am very proud of her. She speaks fluent Russian too.

My mom hired a 16 year old to come by this week and help me clean some things in the house since I have been so sick, I think that starts today.

Enough jibber jabber, here's the contest assignment for today...

TAKE A LOOK AT THE CARTOON PICTURED ABOVE (once again I am not sure who to give the credit of the drawing to, and if you happen to see this here, thank you very much for allowing us to have some fun with it) AND POST IN THE COMMENT SECTION WHAT YOU THINK THE CAPTION SHOULD READ.

I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR THOUGHTS HERE. THEY ARE ALWAYS WONDERFUL, FUNNY AND CREATIVE.
AND ALL CAPTIONS POSTED WILL EARN AN ENTRY IN THE CONTEST... SO GO AT IT AND HAVE FUN.

Hard to believe only two days left for the contest. Then just give me a day or two (without Adam) to draw from the names and then I'll announce the winner.

Tonight is church night for me, I wonder if Adam will still be here? I don't usually take him until Thursday so I am all mixed up. Looks like his daddy or Papa will have to watch him tonight while I am out. Now that's a scary thought.

See everyone tomorrow

28th Day of the August Contest

I love looking for knitting related photos. Adam is here and he is awake and he does not want me blogging, LOL. He wants to play NOGGIN games. Doesn't he know it's only 7:30am? He's so cute though, I have AOL so he sees the little mailbox and it looks like the mailbox from Blues Clues, He also sees the "x" to close out a window and points to it and says "X"!!! {{{sigh}}} Struggling here to post before the day is over.

Let's see I promised a RIDDLE today, of course I haven't prepared one so this will be off the cuff so to speak

YOU MIGHT CALL SOMEONE THIS NAME WHEN THEY ARE HOT
AND HAVE RUN AROUND OUTSIDE ALL DAY IN THE HEAT
BUT I PREFER THE DESCRIPTION WHEN IT'S COLD OUTSIDE
AND I CAN USE THIS TO GET WARM EVEN IF I AM INSIDE

WHAT AM I????

MAKE A GUESS AND POST IT IN THE COMMENT SECTION...I'LL TELL YOU THE ANSWER TOMORROW. REMEMBER YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE RIGHT TO GET A CONTEST ENTRY, YOU JUST HAVE TO GUESS.

Ok I guess I will go play with Adam for awhile. I had a good web hit for viewing yesterday, almost 100 visitors. Maybe I will hot that 2000 goal after all.

See you tomorrow... for more fun.

It's Monday, day 27 of the contest

Hello

I am a little off this morning, I was going to do a riddle today but I just forgot. I also forgot to do some things for the threads on my weight watcher message board groups.

Today is a high stress day for me. I have alot of things to do outside the house, none of which make be happy at all.

So quick change of plans... and a question it will be for today. Tomorrow I hope to do the riddle unless today totally "frogs" me, LOL

So here we go... Today's contest assignment...

HAVE YOU EVER TAKEN A KNITTING OR CROCHETING CLASS SOMEWHERE? DID YOU LIKE IT, WOULD YOU GO AGAIN? IF YOU NEVER HAVE DO YOU THINK OF TRYING ONE IN THE FUTURE? THIS CAN ALSO INCLUDE A KNITTING/CROCHETING CIRCLE TOO

POST YOUR RESPONSE AND GET AN ENTRY IN THE CONTEST TODAY

Only 4 days left, at first I was sure I wouldn't have different things for each day, but it all seemed to work out. After today I hope I can start thinking clearer again.

See everyone tomorrow I only need 500 hits on the web site to meet my goal of 2000 in the month, think I'll make it? Probably not... oh well I am having fun just the same.

My mantra today... I am too blessed to be stressed.

Sunday, Day 26 of the August Contest

The Bride and Groom

Me and my Husband or should it be My Husband and I???

It's Sunday, the wedding is over. The happy couple are off to Vegas. I had to laugh they said they needed to go where there was a busy atmosphere and they wouldn't be bored so they wouldn't fight. Welcome to married life, hahaha

I wore my wedding ring yesterday, well actually it was my Mother in Laws wedding ring from when she was married to my husbands father (he passed away several years ago) I never actually had a ring of my own. Anyway, it's too big for me and I don;t want to size it until I am at a normal weight, so I rarely wear it. I knew it would make her happy to see me wearing it so on it went. Well silly me, haven't worn one in so long put it on my right hand. It was a couple hours before I noticed everyone else had it on their left finger. Geez I felt like such a dork. LOL I skipped the church, good thing too, it was over 100 degrees in there and no air, and about 200 people. I would have been taken out on a stretcher. The reception was very nice, my son Joe was with us he had a blast, I drove home since I was the only one who didn't drink. Have you ever tried to drive home with two intoxicated men in the car??? Nothing I did was right, lol. Wait it's like that when they are sober too.

Ok enough wedding stuff... if you're still with me I'll get onto the contest stuff.

Yesterday I asked if you ever sold anything at a craft fair or booth etc...

TODAY THE QUESTION IS... HAVE YOU EVER BOUGHT SOMETHING SO YOU COULD TAKE IT HOME AND TRY TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE IT OR SOMETHING LIKE IT YOURSELF?

POST YOUR COMMENT AND GET AN ENTRY IN THE CONTEST

I have purchased several things over the years to try to re-create. I rarely ever do though, lol. Now with the Internet and access to pictures and patterns I usually look there first. But if I am out and about and I see something I love, I will buy it.

Oh and yesterday I forgot, I work the polls at election time and I am often working on something when I am there for 15 hours. One year I was making air freshener angels, and I actually sold 10 of them, they were buying them as fact as I could crochet them together and then I got a couple side orders for specific colors. Every year they tell me I should set out stuff, people would buy them. I always forget until like a month before and then I don't have time to get stuff together. Maybe this year I will try. We shall see.

Ok I better let you all go now that you have read a book and a half.

Remember to thank God today for all your blessings, even the ones you haven't seen yet, they are on the way.

CONTEST DAY # 25

Good Morning

Today is the wedding for my brother in law. His name is Eric and he is marrying Kris, I tried to quickly design a wedding cloth for them, it's a little hard to see in the picture, I really need to learn how to block and make the designs stand out better, probably need a better camera too, if only I could win the lottery.

I am still feeling sick, but I think I am over the worst part. I however may need to skip the church part and just go to the reception. It's supposed to be very hot and humid today and the church is HUGE and he thinks with the oxygen it might be too much for me. So I may just meet them at the reception. He is in the wedding so he will be in the limo anyway and not with me. My sister is going to try to color out the grey in my hair and my other sister will come french braid my hair (since I haven;t had a haircut in over a year) I usually braid my hair myself but it looks better if someone does it for me.

Ok onto contest stuff... Yes I have alot of cotton and I love it. I also have two cones as well. And I really want some more solid colors, I have a lot of varigated but to do picture patterns I need solids. Still waiting for another miracle sale, lol

Anyway there were 21 bits of balls left and 75 full balls, there might have been more when it happened because I have used some since then. So the total count was

96

Today I will just ask another general question...

HAVE YOU EVER SOLD ITEMS AT A CRAFT FAIR, SWAP MEET, BAZZAR ETC?

POST YOUR RESPONSE IN THE COMMENT SECTION AND RECEIVE AN ENTRY FOR THE PRIZE... ONYL 6 DAYS LEFT.

I have never sold anything "yet" in this way, except my Aunt last year took some of my things to the fair with her stuff and a couple things were bought. Some hot pads and a couple scarves. I usually prefer to give the stuff away, but am not ruling out the idea once I get some completed projects built up to consider it in the future.

Got a big day ahead so I best go start making a list of what I need to do.

See you all tomorrow.

24 days, August contest going strong

TGIF... I remember when I worked I used to hear people say this all the time. I didn't always, I loved my job. I really miss it.

I did not take the baby this weekend, his other grandma thought it was best to wait until I feel better. I got some over the counter medicine finally last night, I'm pretty sure I need a prescription, but I am going to give it a try anyway.

Onto contest stuff...
My answer to yesterdays question... My mom finds me some different kinds of yarn at the dollar store (ticker tape, ribbon yarn, lion suede, and more)And I got a great deal at Amazon.com awhile back, they had the sugar and creme cotton balls incorrectly priced at .40 a ball... I had to buy some even though I really didn't have money to spend. I wish I had bought more now but after 2 hours they saw the error and it was fixed. But thank God I got some...

That brings us to todays contest assignment... All my cotton yarn was shipped in a cardboard box which I had situated on the backboard of my bed, it's been there forever, and a few days ago, the box broke and in the middle of the night I found myself buried in cotton... I have since moved the yarn to a plastic bag (still stored on the back of my bed, I think I might have issues there, lol) so, now that you know the history...

HOW MANY BALLS OF COTTON YARN DO YOU THINK I WAS BURIED IN? THE ONLY HINT I WILL GIVE YOU IS THERE ARE MORE FULL BALLS THEN BITS OF LEFT OVER BALLS BUT THERE ARE MORE THEN 10 BITS OF LEFT OVER BALLS. LOL... GOOD LUCK.

REMEMBER YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE CORRECT TO PLAY, YOU JUST NEED TO MAKE A GUESS.

I took two pictures, one inside the plastic bag and another dumped out onto the chair, not sure which one makes it easier to guess.

Thanks again for the well wishes... the application is mailed to my son, now I just need to get him a video, that hasn't been done yet. I figure they won't take me because of the oxygen issue, but you never know. I'll keep you all posted if anything comes of it.

Have a great day everyone.

August Contest Day 23

Good Morning.

I am so looking forward to the day I am not attached to a box of kleenex. On a plus side I guess I have been able to get some knitting done while resting. Mostly though I am sleeping. I hope I am on over the worst of it now, and any moment I should feel GREAT

As for yesterdays question... I have never done an exchange, for many of the reasons mentions yesterday. My finances are slim, and I was afraid of not doing enough. If I were ever to do something I would hope it was just the item and maybe a note card, no extras. Something to think about for the New Year maybe, after the holidays are over.

Today's contest assignment is another question... haha how many different knitting/crochet questions can I come up with, this is getting harder, LOL

WHERE DO YOU USUALLY BUY YOUR YARN AND SUPPLIES? ANY LINKS OR WEB SITES YOU WANT TO SHARE? POST YOUR RESPONSE IN THE COMMENTS SECTION AND YOU WILL BE ENTERED IN THE CONTEST FOR TODAY.

Oh not sure if I mentioned it yesterday but my oldest son Jim, the one who just went to Chicago for school, called and wants the two of us to apply for Biggest Loser, they are looking for family pairs. I filled out the application (10 pages, yikes)and now I need to make a short 3 minute video... who knows maybe we will get chosen and I can knit my way to the ranch and a healthier weight again.

Well I guess that's all for me for today... Not sure if Adam will come today or not. My Husband wants him here, but I am still pretty sick and I sure don't want to make the baby sick again.

Have a great day today everyone.

Day 22, only 9 days left

Wow this month has really gone by pretty fast. I have calculated that I have had 1264 visits to my blog since August 1st. That's an average of 60 people a day, wow.

Loved the cartoon captions as expected and thank you everyone for the get well wishes. I am still not feeling better yet but I know it's just a matter of time. I know Jesus heals just sometimes the symptoms don't get the message.

By the way my cartoon caption would have been:

Hearing a harsh winter was approaching and Edgars concerns of the house and garage needing new insulation, Ida decided to help using her "pink panther" colored wool yarn.

Today will be a question day...

HAVE YOU EVER, OR WOULD YOU EVER LIKE TO BE PART OF AN EXCHANGE GROUP? WHERE YOU WOULD MAKE SOMETHING AND SEND IT TO ANOTHER AND SOMEONE WOULD SEND SOMETHNG TO YOU? IT COULD BE A DISHCLOTH, A SCARF, SOCKS, WHATEVER. POST YOUR THOUGHTS IN THE COMMENTS SECTION

Gosh I am tired. It's church night, I hope I am feeling up to it, I really want to be there.

Have a great day everyone.

August Contest Day 21

Well here I am again. I have to admit I am not feeling well at all. I think I was in bed 3/4 of the day yesterday and expect today to be much of the same. Finally at 10pm I was able to at least crochet a square for charity but that was it.

Because I am not very creative today and can't think of a question or a riddle (stuffy head) I thought maybe a cartoon caption would work. I accidently cut off part of the creators signature when I saved it, so if by some chance the cartoon drawer comes by I want you to have full credit for the drawing.

Day 21 contest assignment...

Think of a caption to go with this cartoon and post your thoughts in the comment section for your entry today... No answer is right or wrong, just have fun, whatever comes to your mind.

They say laughter is the best medicine, maybe we will all feel better after reading your comments today. Especially ME.

See you all tomorrow...

Monday, day 20 of the August Contest

Good morning everyone...

It's Monday, a new week are you all excited about that? I never felt Monday's were bad, I was always refreshed from Sunday and ready to take on the world.

The picture above is my newest original pattern design. I received a request from someone for a church and this was what I came up with. I will be posting the free pattern on my pattern blog (there is a link to it from this one)if anyone is interested. My camera is not the best and this test cloth has one flaw, I missed a row so the church is facing left but if the pattern is done correctly it should face the right. Oh well, you might as well know I am not perfect. LOL

Todays contest assignment...

HAVE YOU EVER CREATED AN ORIGINAL PATTERN? IF YOU DON'T THINK YOU CAN IS THERE SOMETHING YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE IN A PATTERN? TELL US ABOUT IT/THEM.

That's it for today, an easy assignemnt right? I am so having a blast with this contest and hearing about what things everyone likes, does, makes etc.

Thank you also for the comments that lead me to other ideas. For instance yesterday Michelle told me about that scrubbie, which by the way I will be making today, LOL
and Pamela a week or so back got me looking for the snowflake afghan which I will also make as soon as I get some white yarn, LOL.

BLOGGING ROCKS... YOU ALL ROCK.

Sunday, Day 19 of the contest

Sunday... the day I look forward to all week.

Last night we went to my mom's church and listened to my niece and several other college students sing a little worship and praise concert. It was to say goodbye to everyone and earn some scholarship money as well. It was really good and three of the girls including my niece Autumn gave testimonies. I found myself teary eyed, I can't be more proud when I see what a wonderful woman she has become.

Ok back to contest stuff...

The answer yesterday was A DISHCLOTH... some of you may have noticed the "hint" I had in the post just before I wrote the riddle.

So on to todays... I have a question for you all

IF YOU FOUND YOURSELF STRANDED IN A YARN SHOP AND THEY ONLY HAD ONE SET OF KNITTING NEEDLES (OR CROCHET HOOK IF YOU DON'T KNIT)WHAT NEEDLE SIZE, TYPE WOULD YOU HOPE THEY HAD THERE?

OK that's it for today... I am off to get ready for church and then an afternoon of knitting and NASCAR.

Day 18 of the August contest

Good morning and welcome to the weeeknd.

I think it's time for another RIDDLE...

Hmmm is that the roar of CHEERS I hear???

( I have to apologize, I get the riddle theme from watching Dora the Explorer with Adam, lol... we love RIDDLES) Almost as much as we love washing dishes, {wink}{wink}

Ok are you ready then for today's contest assignment...

SOLVE MY RIDDLE

I LOVE TO BE USED AND I AM TOUGH
I THINK YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH
IN A DRAWER OR A CABINET YOU CAN STORE
IF YOU GUESS MY NAME YOU'LL KNOW WHAT I'M FOR

WHAT AM I?????

Have fun... and remember you don't have to be right to play, just make a guess.

Day 17 of the August contest

Good Morning

My grandson Adam is here and wants to play NOGGIN games on the computer... He does not understand my need to BLOG, lol.

I loved the captions yesterday, as usual you all made me smile.

My first caption thought was...

KNIT PICK, HEN PECK.... WHATEVER.

Not as good or creative as all yours were though.

Today's contest assignment...

WHEN YOU ARE STRESSED, DEPRESSED, SICK OR JUST TIRED, WHAT DO YOU PICK UP TO KNIT OR CROCHET THAT USUALLY MAKES THINGS SEEM BETTER?

For me I usually do a dishcloth, and a repeat pattern that works up fast. For me seeing something finished quickly always boosts my spirits. I will also, when I can't seem to find the energy for anything, crochet a square and with each stitch I seem to re-awaken.

Looking forward to your comments.

Happy Friday everyone, I am off to play toddler games.

Thursday, August 16, 2007

Thursday, Day 16 and counting

Well I am glad to see I am not the only one that is a little un-organized when it comes to patterns.

I thought today we would do another cartoon caption... Something to lighten the day a little as we get ready for the weekend.

So take a look at the cartoon above and post in the comments section a caption that you think will apply to this picture.

The one we did last week made me laugh and smile at every one posted, so I am looking forward to getting some new laugh lines today.{{{wink}}}

Have a wonderful day, keep those needles clicking away, and rememeber to smile alot along the way

Day 15, can you believe it?

It's Wednesday already, half the week is almost over and so is half of this contest. I am really having fun trying to think up some different things each day to blog... it's definately keeping me on my toes.

I am a little late getting started this morning, I woke up early and decided to get my printed out patterns inside the plastic page protector sheets and into a notebook. This picture only reflects the patterns I have printed out, on my computer are probably 500 more I have yet to try. I LOVE looking at patterns and thinking about who I could make these beautiful things for.

My question today is:

HOW DO YOU STORE YOUR PATTERNS? COMPUTER, NOTEBOOK, ANYWHERE YOU CAN FIND A SPOT? ARE YOU ORGANIZED (IE: STORED VIA CATEGORY OR DIFFICULTY) OR DO YOU NEED TO LOOK THROUGH TONS BEFORE YOU FIND THE ONE YOU'RE LOOKING FOR?

POST YOUR ANSWER IN THE COMMENT SECTION AND GET AN ENTRY IN THE CONTEST TODAY

Oh and before I forget, in the mayonnaise jar, there were 22 sets of straight needles and 7 circular needles. Amazing huh? Some of those needles are super thin like size 1, the orange ones are those battery light up needles so you can knit in the dark. I think there are also about 10 crochet hooks in there too. I like having my supplies close by, lol. I need to find something to keep the circulars in, right now they are in a zip lock baggie.

It's church tonight, I look forward to the fellowship. I love my church family.

Today I need to clean around my desk area, I am ashamed to say I think Adam left something underneath it, some kind of food or something, because there is a definate unpleasant smell and I can't find the source. YUCK. And there is so much mail etc that I missed whatever it is/was.

{{{sigh}}} I'd rather be knitting... LOL

Tuesday, August 14, 2007

Day 14, Contest is 2 weeks strong

Good Morning (ha everytime I type that in my mind I say Vietnam, in my best Robbin Williams accent)

It's Tuesday and that means it's "TAKE A GUESS DAY"

Above you will see a jar of my knitting needles. There are long and short straight needles and some circular needles stuffed in there. You might notice a crochet hook or two but we are not counting those today... So todays contest assignment is...

HOW MANY "PAIRS" OF KNITTING NEEDLES DO I HAVE IN THIS MAYONAISE JAR? REMEMBER TO COUNT IN PAIRS (SETS) NOT INDIVIDUALLY.

Have fun guessing. I had to count them three times to make sure I had it right. And sad part is this is only the needles I am not using at the moment. I have more, LOL
REMEMBER YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE A CORRECT GUESS, JUST MAKE A GUESS

I just wanted to thank you all for playing this month, it has really been fun for me so far and I hope you are enjoying it as well. I hope to do more of these in the future.

Have a wonderful day.

Day Thirteen of August's Contest

Good Monday Morning to everyone

I hope you all had a wonderful weeeknd. I did. Had a ball with Adam, got some work done on the charity afghans. Talked to my son in Chicago, was filled with JOY at church, my friend Shelly is home...so many things to be thankful for.

I am so glad you are all still playing and I hope to keep this interesting for the rest of the month. I need to keep my brain working.

Our Assignment today...

IS THERE A STITCH OR PATTERN YOU HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO DO/MAKE BUT HAVE NOT TRIED YET? WHAT IS IT? WHAT IS HOLDING YOU BACK?

I myself have several things I am itching to try, and create as well. I this year learned cables and some lace stitches, the garterlac... the list continues. I really want to make a lacey pair of socks and I want to learn to felt. Hopefully I can try these two things before the end of the year.

I look forward to hearing what you are hoping to master in the near future.

Sunday, Day 12 of the month long contest

Ahhh... Sunday. My absolute without question favorite day of the week. Today is especially special because my friend Shelly returns from a week long cruise. I have been almost lost without her. Even though we live many states apart, we are never further then a phone call away. Thank you Lord for unlimited long distance calling.

The answer to my Saturday riddle was of course a "SQUARE"

Today I guess I'll just ask a simple question...

"Who taught you to knit/crochet and how old were you?"

Yesterday was a BLAST. I brought Adam to another birthday party, and we had so much fun. Outside playing all day. I got a ton of pictures. I will try to make a slide show and post it on the blog later this week, I am so blessed having such an awesome grandson. I just can't remember life without him.

That said it's nearing 1am here and I better get to bed ot I might sleep through church tomorrow, and I sure don't want to do that.

Count your blessings today, there are so many of them aren't there?

Day 11 starts today

`
It's the weekend are you afraid I am gonna stretch your brain on your day off? Nope, today you get a break, lol.

Here is a little riddle, just for fun...

I am easy to make, almost like air
I can be a 6 or a 7 or an 8, I don't care
I like many designs and yarn you can spare
Are you with me, I hope so... be there

or be ?????? WHAT AM I???

Have a great day everyone, I hope your weather allows you to enjoy some fresh air today while you create. See you all tomorrow

Friday, August 10, 2007

Day 10, are you still with me?

Well Thank God it's Friday, right? Well for me Friday means a full day with my grandson. He came over yesterday and will stay until Sunday. As you can see from the picture above he is loving his new yard play area. When he broke his leg and was in the body cast I was so afraid he would not be able to enjoy them this year. I am so glad God decided to heal him quickly and completely.

Anyway... enough Grandma stuff... onto day 10 of the contest...

As you can see the poll ended today about what's on your needles... So I think today your entry into the contest is to actually tell me what's on your needles (or hooks if crocheting)are they scarves, squares, socks, sweaters??? Hmmm do all projects start with an "S"? LOL

I loved loved loved the captions you all submitted. I am going to look for some more funny knitting related cartoons and maybe do a couple more throughout the month. If anyone knows where I can find a few feel free to email me gimpykatk@aol.com. Thanks.

Day 9 of the August contest

I thought I'd try something new today...

Assignment... Can you think up a caption for the above cartoon?

Post your ideas in the comment section today. It should be fun to see what creative ideas you all will have.

Today is Thursday... my grandson comes today. It is going to be a great day. I hope everyone finds at least one reason to smile today. We are so blessed.

See you all tomorrow.

Aunt Kathy

Wow is this the 8th day of the contest already?

Wow what a week huh?

Ok first things first...

Yesterdays answer... there were 560 YoYo's in the pictured afghan... 20 across and 28 down. Why such an odd number? Well I knit/crochet squares for charity and they are usually about 8", and it looked to me that 16 YoYo's sewn together made about an 8" square. Close Knit Hugs is the charity I work with and her afghans are usually 5 squares across and 7 squares long.

At first I was making the YoYo's whenever I had scrap yarn around after making a square or other project. I kept them in a washed out coffee can (hint... if you do ever do this, TUCK in those ends right away, don't wait until you have 500 of them, lol)It takes about 3 minutes to make a YoYo so they work up fast. Once I was ready to start trying to connect them (it looked complicated but really wasn't) I realised I needed more colors so I started making YoYo's on purpose.

My grandson Adam loved watching me work with this project, he will be three in September and he would sit there and point out all the colors in the afghan. BLUE, ORNGE, LELLOW... I am already collecting more YoYo's and maybe by the end of the year I'll have enough to make another one.

Now for today's assignment...

HAVE YOU EVER DONATED SQUARES/ITEMS TO A CHARITY OR CHARITIES? WHICH ONES ARE YOU A PART OF...? FEEL FREE TO SHARE THEIR WEB ADDRESS IN YOUR COMMENT.

As for me... Close Knit Hugs was my first. I have also been making squares for Victory Junction Gang (a NASCAR charity for terminally ill children)I have many more charities I'd like to donate to but haven't yet done it. I'd like to add another one each year as my yarn supplies last.

Looking forward to hearing from everyone today...
It's Wednesday, church night for me, I consider it my mid-week pick up. May you also be renewed today.

Day 7 of the August contest

Good Morning everyone... I hope you have all been enjoying the contest so far.

I am sure you have seen the picture of the YoYo afghan in my slide show... here is a picture of some of the YoYo's before they were all attached...

Todays assignment...

How many YoYo's do you think I used in the afghan by the time I was finished?

Remember you don't have to guess correctly you just need to guess, and don't worry if your guess is the same as anyone elses, there's no competition here. I just love seeing the comments.

I have been tracking the website hits since I started and as of yesterday there have been 529 hits to the blog. That's awesome. It's these little things that make me smile. Imagaine if all 529 hits had posted a comment, WOW

Have a great Tuesday everyone, find a reason to smile today and share it with another.

Day 6 of the August contest

Good Morning.
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and you were blessed and renewed. I was thinking I was going to be a little down this week, with my son off to college, my friend Shelly on a cruise and my mom and sisters away for the week, I felt abandoned. It was going to be just me and the yarn this week. But God showed me otherwise. I got a phone call from a firend I've missed talking to for months, it made my day. A woman who was angry with me for months finally yesterday came to say she was sorry and mend things up.

So even when things look like it's too dark to see, hold tight to the promise that God's eye is always on you, His hand is always holding you and His love will NEVER leave you.

I am expecting this to be a week of miracles.

Now onto the contest...

How do you store your yarn supplies? Do you have a shelf, a chest, bags, boxes etc.?

For me I have some of those plastic afghan bags, I have one for solid colors of acrylic, one for varrigated acrylic, one for what I call specialty yarn (not acrylic...lol) and then I have a huge box of cotton on the back of my bed, and two more huge boxes of yarn that I don't know where to store it yet. And I still want more... hmmm perhaps I have a yarn addiction. LOL

Leave your comments, tell others about the contest, and have a wonderful day everyone.

It's Sunday, day 5 of the August contest

This has really been alot of fun and I love visiting the blogs of all the people who have left comments. Since I am a relatively new blogger, I love seeing all the different things you all have on your blogs.

Looks like Varigated yarn was the most popular in yesterdays question. I love all yarn, all colors. However I am just learning that there are other types then "red heart acryllic" LOL that's all I ever used. Now though I am eager to try all types, like suede, boucle, cotton and well the list goes on and on

My question today is:

What type of yarn have you been hoping to try and what do you want to make with it?
(If you have tried every yarn out there... I am so jealous... then what is your absolute favorite type?)

As for me when I am finally thin (yes it is gonna happen) I want to find the softest pink yarn, (a pastel pink)like cashmere or something, and find a sweater pattern and make one for myself. I have invisioned this many times, so far have never seen the exact yarn or sweater pattern but I will know when I see it. Until then it's a dream.

Well it's Church day and then NASCAR after that. Who could ask for a better day? My grandson has gone back home, my husband is off to a Yankee game in NYC and I am on my own for the day. I see lot's of knitting in my afternoon.

Day Four is here

Wow, it's been 4 days already, and only 27 more to go, LOL.

Comments were light again yesterday, all the more chance for those who did comment to win the prize, right?

I actually found a new pattern because of a comment made to the blog (it didn't register on the blog though) so it was a win win situation for me.

Let's see what shall we do today...

I love to write poems and rhymes you see
They are usually such a release for me
But knitting and crocheting is my passion
Making gifts that I hope are in fashion

My only setback, an here I shall wink
Is my FAVORITE color is any shade of PINK

So what is your favorite color to work with???

Leave a comment, and have another chance to win the monthly prize.

It's Saturday. May this be a great start to the weekend for us all.

Day 3 of the August Contest

Well now that's much better we had 23 comments on Day 2.

Those dishcloths were the Wave Pool cloths I made for my mom to give as VBS thank you gifts. I blogged about them in June and July so you probably could have found the answer in my older posts... the number of cloths in the picture were 25... I did actually end up making 31 of them by the time I was done.

Congratulation to those who guessed correctly you will get 2 entries for that.

Now onto day 3...

I think today I will ask a question...

Have you ever made a gift for someone else and loved it so much you wished you could keep it for yourself? What was it?

Ok that's the assignment today, hope we have a good response again. I am going to have to keep my brain working to come up with 31 different assignments, LOL

Happy Friday everyone, thanks for coming and playing and making my day brighter.

Welcome to day 2 of the August contest

Yesterday we had two entries in for the prize, hopefully more will comment today. I checked the hit counter and there were 20 page views but only 2 comments...

The instructions for today is to guess how many of these Wave Dishcloths are pictured here. Post your answer in the comment section. You do not have to be correct to get an entry, you just need to guess. However I think if you guess correctly I will give two entries for that.

Now for yesterdays riddle... hahahaha I thought I was so clever and it was going to be so easy... The answer is "Peaches and Cream"

I just learned the other day there is corn on the cob called peaches and cream, I guess it's got both white and yellow kernels. I said the only peaches and cream in my world is cotton yarn, then some others chimed in and said peaches and cream for them was ice cream or yogurt and even fresh peaches with whipped cream. So that's how I came up with the riddle.

Don't forget to direct others from your blog if you have one to here, for every referral there is another entry.

Happy Tuesday

It's August First, Let The Fun Begin

Greeting old friends and new, I am excited about this contest. I love blog hopping and hope to meet many new bloggers I may not have found otherwise.

Here's a riddle for everyone today...

Sometimes it's corn, sometimes it's fruit
Sometimes it's yogurt, isn't that a hoot?
But to me this item doesn't come from a farm
Nope to me this item is a type of yarn.

What is it?

I look forward to hearing your comments, and wrong or right if you comment you are entered. Tomorrow I will reveal the answer to this riddle, so don't forget to come back and play again.
